I was privileged to be sent this product by the Neoasia team for review. I have been trying it out for some time and I am liking the effects. An award winning product (it won Singapore Women’s Weekly Best Buys 2015 (Best Calming Fix Award)), Exuviance Anti Redness Calming Serum does live up its name. Check out a 20% DISCOUNT CODE at the end of this post!
So what is this meant to do?
According to Exuviance, this “milky serum utilizes a soothing combination of active science and proven botanicals that address the four underlying causes of redness, restoring calm to sensitive skin. This milky serum reduces redness and restores calm to sensitive skin for a calmer complexion. Targets 4 underlying causes of redness, restoring calm to sensitive, rosacea-prone skin. 67% of users reported the appearance of redness is reduced right after application”.
As most of my friends and readers know, I have very sensitive skin. Sometimes I think it has a mind of its own. I am blessed that I don’t have to deal with acne nor rosacea, (however I do get the occasional blemish) but sensitive skin that flares up easily is also not easy to handle. I have gone through a whole plethora of skin remedies, consultations with my dermatologist, facialists, beauty and health experts.
It is a fine balancing act. I try to keep my base skincare routine consistent and tweak it for changes in weather, etc. As for skincare and beauty products I use, I usually veer towards very gentle, mild, non preservative, non additive types as much as possible.
Enter Exuviance Anti Redness Calming Serum. The packaging is luxe, in a dark green pump bottle. I personally like pump bottles as it can keep the product fresh longer and there is less wastage since you can control the amount of product you want to dispense. The downside is you can’t see how much/little is left inside.
The texture at first glance, looks thick and heavy, but it is just the opposite. In fact, when applied, it is very light and sinks into the skin quickly. There is no sticky residue, nor is there a strong scent. The scent is very faint.
Recently I had red angry rashes on my face. After applying this serum, within 20 minutes the swelling went down and the redness and itch subsided. After a little while longer, the rash was gone. My skin was calmed, moisturized and I was happy. Balance was restored!
So what’s in this cream? I am quite particular about reading ingredients because many times it has resulted in unpleasant situations because I was too lazy/too busy to read it.
To cut through the scientific terms, this serum’s main ingredients includes Algae extract which helps to soothe skin, Willow herb (which also helps to treat numerous illnesses) heals skin from UV damage, Tripeptide (which also features in many anti wrinkle treatments) to help reduce redness on skin, while the company’s PHA and patented Bionic complex helps to strengthen the skin, reducing sensitivity. The product doesn’t contain added alcohol, fragrance nor parabens.
So who is the company behind this product? None other than Neostrata Company Inc, the people known for Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), also called fruit acid. Neostrata was founded in 1988 by two doctors, Dr Van Scott and Dr Yu. AHAs were originally discovered in the 1970s for the treatment of ichthyosis which yielded good results for patients. Since then, AHAs are now widely used in skincare and dermatology.
At S$115.55, it is indeed a luxe buy, but for something that can help remedy skin issues, it’s worth investing in. I don’t know about you, but if my skin isn’t good, it really affects my mood and no amount of makeup can help.
