Recently I was invited by the lovely Caudalie Hong Kong team to their spa. As you have probably already read in my previous posts (here and here), Caudalie products have worked well for my sensitive skin and are one of my beauty must haves.
Founded in Bordeaux, France, Caudalie began on the family vineyard Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte of Mathilde Thomas and her husband Bertrand. Harnessing the goodness from the grapevines and grape Polyphenols, Caudalie’s brand charter is based on Cosm-ethics, selecting only natural and environmentally friendly ingredients. Products are free of parabens, mineral oil, artificial colouring and other nasties.
The brand is also committed to saving the environment – all packaging is made from recycled paper and recycled plastic or plant based plastics are favoured. Caudalie is also a member of 1% for the plant, donating 1% of revenues to NGOs to help regions threathened by deforestation and maintain their biodiversity.
The Caudalie spa in Hong Kong is currently the only one in Asia, together with spas in Paris, New York, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. It is located on Gough Street, right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Central in Hong Kong. However once you step in, it feels like you are in a cocoon, transported to somewhere else tranquil and calm – the French vineyard. The sounds of the crowd fade out. I am met with smiling welcoming faces even before I step in.
The first thing I see in the bright and cozy store are the beautiful displays of their star products that make me want to shop immediately. I don’t have to fly all the way to Paris to get my Caudalie. Yay!
The treatments are usually 50 minutes, designed for the busy individual who can pop in for a facial / massage / mani / pedi and still be on time for their next appointment. If you have more time you can opt for the longer treatments. For facials, the therapist will go through your skin profile to recommend a suitable treatment from the Deluxe treatments on their menu, be it for anti-aging, radiance, firming, hydrating, etc. For those with only 30 minutes to spare, you can opt for the Express D-Vine facial.
I am treated to a cup of their herbal tea to start and seated on one of their comfortable chairs.
Afterwhich, I am ushered upstairs to one of their two treatment rooms for my Divine Body massage, using (but of course) the famous (and also a favourite of mine) Caudalie Divine Oil.
The treatment rooms have a calm, relaxing and luxe feel, with the fragrance of Divine Oil in the air. From the custom vineyard themed wallpaper, the Caudalie products on the marble counter top, the candles, fluffy white robe, inviting bed and the soothing music, atmosphere was perfect.
My treatment room came with an attached shower to freshen up after my massage, complete with Caudalie shower gel and shampoo. One touch I really liked was a private space for me to leave my belongings in the room itself, instead of in a locker somewhere else.
The massage bed was so comfortable, and the pristine white towels were large and fluffy, at first I thought I was covered with a very expensive duvet. The ultra plush towels at the spa are custom made for Caudalie.
Before we started the massage, my therapist asked which areas I wanted to focus on. The massage was just the thing to soothe my aching muscles. My therapist Jojo’s expert kneadling was just the right pressure, without me having to prompt her throughout. She explained to me afterward that she tailored the pressure according to my body condition in different areas. With Divine oil enveloping my body, I drifted off to sleep…Zzzzz
Caudalie therapists are all trained by their professional Vinotherapists in Les Source De Caudalie in Bordeaux. Founder Mathilde Thomas personally carries out the evaluations. This attention to detail is clearly evident – my therapist Jojo was very professional, knowledgeable and personable. It was a very enjoyable experience to just sit back, be pampered and let an expert take over. Bliss!
Returning from divine dreamland all too soon, I felt rejuvenated and my skin hydrated. I was left to freshen up. Generally guests are advised to let the oil absorb into the skin for a while before washing it off. However I was off to another appointment afterward so I had a quick warm shower.
Next came shopping time!
The Caudalie team walked me through the pretty boutique downstairs, which has the ENTIRE Caudalie range from France. Previously I had only known about a handfull of their products that I had come across in Paris and at Sephora Singapore. I was amazed that the brand has everything from herbal tea, shampoo, shaping body oil, fragrances, mineral bronzing powder, to their signature beauty elixir and divine oil. Selected products are also available in travel size so you can always bring your favourite Caudalie everywhere.
It was a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. Reluctantly I said goodbye to the Caudalie spa, going back out to the pulse of the city, vowing to return again soon. Thank you Caudalie! xoxo
