When I was little, I used to play with my mother’s make-up, like all little girls. I took a particular liking to the expensive Chanel ones much to her dismay and broke a few lipsticks etc while playing dress up. I loved her Louis Vuitton monogramed cosmetics bag and remembered thinking I want one of those when I grow up.
Many years ago, my then boyfriend, now my husband, was extremely tickled by the story and then promptly presented me with my very own Louis Vuitton cosmetic bag. Needless to say I was very pleased. One thing I appreciate about Louis Vuitton is its quality; this bag doesn’t look its age at all even after much use. I rotate using this with one of my prada cosmetic bags when I need to lighten up my bag.
Sunscreen
My mother always nags me to apply sunscreen daily and that’s one piece of advice I am forever grateful for. For regular days I use Jane Iredale Powder-me SPF 40 dry sunscreen or Bare Minerals Ready SPF 20 foundation for a more polished finish.
Fragrance
Since my daughter was born, I found my previously favourite scents too strong. Recently, I feel in love with Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, a light fresh fragrance with floral and fruity notes which reminds me of Paris in the spring.
Lipsticks / Lip Gloss
I have always liked MAC lipsticks for their great colours, extensive range and sleek packaging. No matter what formulation, it also doesn’t cause skin irritation. Typically, the more intense a lipstick colour, the higher chances of skin irritation due to higher pigments, according to my dermatologist. I don’t have such problems with MAC. Currently, I have taken a fancy to their red lipsticks and glosses.
And naturally I still like Chanel lippies. I am especially drawn to their lip glosses – Rouge Allure for their pink shades. The packaging is oh so lovely and the colours intense. No skin allergies. Yay!
Lip Balms
I have a couple I use in rotation. My current 2 favourites are Curel lipbalm which is hydrating and good for sensitive skin. Kiehls Lipbalm No 1 is an old favourite that keeps my lips moisturized and lasts a long time.
Concealer
For those days I need to cover up dark under eye circles and blemishes, I use Jane Iredale Circle/Delete concealer. It has a creamy texture that is easy to apply and blend. Contains moringa butter and avocado oil, both rich in vitamins and green tea extract, an antioxidant.
Eyeshadow
I usually love my MAC eyeshadows but during a recent trip to Tokyo, I picked up an inexpensive quad of neutrals from Brigitte at their local Tokyu Hands because I forgot to bring mine. The texture was smooth and colours have good pigmentation with a satin finish, which isn’t too shimmery so it’s good for day use.
Mascara
Yes Chanel again. This is one of my favourites. Inimitable extreme in black. It lengthens, thickens, looks natural yet doesn’t smudge. Comes off easily with gentle make-up remover.
Eyelash curler
I have been using the Shu Uemura eyelash curler as long as I have been wearing make-up. Even without applying mascara, just using this gives a nice natural curl and opens up eyes.
Blush
Nars Orgasm blush looked very coral in the packaging but comes out naturally pink on my skin with a little shimmer. It’s one of the most popular shades of blush in the collection and suits most skin tones.
